Self Care Reflection: Fear and Excitement
Beloveds! One of my favorite parts of weekly Zoom aerobics classes is the self care check in. After our (optional) group photo we settle in with whoever wants to stay and check in about our self care wins for the week.
Every week I’m reminded of things that are self care that aren’t top of my mind. I’m so inspired by each and every one of you continuing to contemplate self care in your life.
This past week, Skip Bacon (one of my favorite kinds of bacon) said she realized that she was feeling excitement about the possibility of an opportunity, but initially thought that feeling was fear or stress.
It’s amazing how these things in our bodies can sometimes feel the same! I was super impressed that Skip was able to be the observer of her emotions and where they landed in her body and get more aligned with how she was really feeling. This is the fruits of practicing mindfulness!
It reminded me of a Stanford research study about “good stress vs bad stress” I had just learned about.
“The initial research on stress mindsets, which was conducted by Stanford psychology Assistant Professor Alia Crum, showed that viewing stress as a helpful part of life, rather than as harmful, is associated with better health, emotional well-being and productivity at work – even during periods of high stress.”
I hope you’ll join us for a Zoom class and a self care check in! Connect with other folks from class in our community Discord server, exclusively through the Patreon page! Patreon membership includes free access to all Zoom classes!
