Self Care Reflection: Mental Health Awareness Month!
At the self care check-in this week, Dominique reminded us that it’s mental health awareness month!
I’m really passionate about de-stigmatizing therapy and mental wellness practices. I think going to therapy should be as regular (and applauded) as going to the gym!
The theme for this weekend was mental health and faith and Dominque encouraged us to include mental health in our Sunday messages. (There are actually several folks who are ministers/pastors and spiritual leaders who are FKDP Regulars.)
So much of my own mental health wellness practices are supported by my faith. There’s so much uncertainty in life and developing my spiritual practices have relieved a lot of the burden I used to carry inside my brain, constantly overthinking or needing to solve for every worst case scenario.
It’s a practice for me to root out thoughts of worry and anxiety and replace them with faith, but mostly it’s also a lot of behavior that helps to ease those racing thoughts. Centering my mental wellness in my overall life and spiritual practices helps me feel so much more at peace and aligned, which is the life I believe we are meant to live.
Thanks to everyone who connects during our self care check-ins after class! What are some mental health supportive practices that are getting you through this thing called life? Share with us in the community Discord (available through Patreon)!
